Live Music Sing for Salli
Sing for Salli

On Monday October 10th 2016, a motor accident deprived a mother of her two children, aged 12 and 17. No words can describe the pain and desolation that this accident inflicted on the children’s mother, Salli Grant.
As a consequence of the accident and other influential factors, single mum Salli has found herself in financial straits and to help her, a Facebook ‘Just Giving’ page has been set up.
On seeing this page, the local musicians of Salisbury decided that there was more they could do than contribute to the Facebook page; they decided to hold a concert to raise even more money to help Salli at her time of great need.
Thus ‘Sing for Salli’ was born. Sing for Salli is a multi-band event which is being held on Saturday January 28th at the Blackledge Hall, Godolphin School, Salisbury.
The bands and acts taking part are:
The Zucchinis
The Passenger Club
The Radiators
Stranded
Six Feet Above
Sarum’s Lot
Vic Salt

Michael Portillo: 'Life: a game of two halves'
It took Michael Portillo little more than 10 years to get a seat in the Commons and then rise in power and esteem to a point where he was a favoured leader of his party and possible future PM. A track record like that suggests to many a privileged friend of the rich and famous with little or no understanding of or care for the ordinary citizen. But since leaving the house a decade ago Michael has endeared himself to many with his obvious respect for solid workmanship and creative energy, as found in our great Victorian Railways, and the daily toil of the working man. A historian at heart, he has used a Victorian railway guide to take millions of viewers on a historical voyage of discovery throughout the UK, Ireland, and indeed most of Europe. Listen to his extraordinary story and then feel free to question him about it.

Live Music Volosi
Volosi is a Polish Klezmer Band whose debut in 2010 at the ‘New Tradition’ Festival yielded all possible awards. In 2011 they confirmed their success by winning Grand Prix Svetozar Stracina for the best piece in the ‘world music’ category in Europe, in the contest organized by the European Broadcasting Union. In 2012 their first album entered the special World Charts Europe TOP20 selection. Since then Volosi have constantly been on tour. All over the world they meet with spontaneous enthusiasm of the audience, and gain very positive critics’ reviews. Their concerts have been broadcast by the 2 and 3 Programmes of the Polish Radio, the BBC and the German WDR3.

The critics universally agree that Volosi have managed to achieve a unique and original musical style, escaping categorization. By exceeding the limits of string instruments they create music that can be described as thoroughly modern and attractive for contemporary listener – growing out of the Carpathian roots, but also bearing marks of jazz improvisation charged with rock energy and full swing of emotional content. This phenomenon brings Volosi praise among big rock festival audiences, as well as highly prestigious concert hall attenders, world music lovers and royal family members.
