Spire FM's Chosen Charity 2010
Making life better for local children in hospital
Spire FM is proud to be supporting the Stars Appeal's Caring 4 Kids campaign as our chosen charity for the second year running! Spire FM will be working very closely with the charity and getting involved in the many fundraising events. We need your help to raise money to help make life better for local children in hospital.
The Caring 4 Kids Campaign managed to reach their 2009 target of £1 million to help fund a highly advanced new Children's Centre at Salisbury District Hospital. The centre will benefit thousands of children from across Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire.

Treating over 6,000 sick children every year:
Over 6,000 children come through Salisbury District Hospital every year. They are treated for serious illnesses including cancer, cystic fibrosis and meningitis. They also receive care in emergencies and for other childhood conditions. Everything from broken bones to having their tonsils out.

2010 Target!
For the second year running, Spire FM will be supporting the Caring 4 Kids campaign and with your help, we hope to get to their next target of £500,000.
This would help fund a range of new facilities and equipment to make life better for thousands of local children in Hospital. These include a self-contained family unit attached to the Hospital's special care baby unit (NICU), which will provide parent's accomodation, play rooms and educational facilities for mums, dads and siblings.
This money would also help create a dedicated children's waiting and treatment area for the thousands of children that attend the Accident and Emergency department each year.

Latest news from the Stars Appeal HQ
Mayor of Salisbury announces who his chosen charity is this year...The Stars Appeal!
Cllr Brian Dalton announced on the 19th May that he will also be supporting the chairty.
Here is the statement he released declaring why he chose the Stars Appeal -
"My decision was based on one of the most important people who came into my life, my sister Trish, who sadly passed away on 7 February 1990. She was just 34 years old.
She had one of the biggest hearts I know and on one occasion I remembered that just two years before her death, Trish had won a giant Teddy in a Christmas Raffle. She immediately said to me that she wanted to take it to the Children’s ward up at Odstock. So on Christmas Eve, 1988, we drove up to the hospital and donated the Teddy to the Nurses on the ward for the children.
It’s funny how you remember some things, which now mean so much.
This memory has reminded me of the fantastic work that Salisbury District Hospital and indeed the children’s services there do. I have therefore decided to support the Stars Appeal and use funds raised from The Mayor’s Appeal to provide family accommodation for the parents and families of premature and critically ill babies. I’m sure Trish would be very proud of this decision.”
