Day Three in Toronto

4th May 2018

Day three, well you can’t visit Ontario and not go to Niagara Falls!  It’s around an hours drive away from Toronto but absolutely worth it.

Toronto 4

The famous waterfalls are about 12,000 years old and overlap the border between Canada and the United States.  First impressions…. simply stunning!

The thundering roar and the sight of one fifth of the world’s fresh water crashing into the basin below is something you won’t forget.

The weather wasn’t on our side today, so we couldn’t do the boat trip out into the heart of the falls, but we did get pretty close on the ‘Behind the Falls’ experience.

Armed with our stylish yellow poncho (which one of us got quite excited about) we descended 125 feet to the tunnels below the bedrock.

The observation deck is brilliant and a perfect chance to get selfies, but be prepared to get more than a little wet!

There are loads of brilliant stories and facts about the falls, but the one that made us both stop in our tracks is that of a 7 year old boy that survived being swept over the Horseshoe Falls in 1960.

A certain Prince Harry also visited the site with his brother and his mum.

Today, we give away the holiday! Good luck if you've entered to win - send us a postcard!

Day Two in Toronto

3rd May 2018

Day two of our whistle stop tour of Toronto and we headed out with our travel guide to get a feel of the city, stopping to get a picture of the stunning skyline and the iconic CN Tower.

Toronto Skyline

Other highlights included the Royal Bank Plaza, a GOLD skyscraper as well as the building where Suits is filmed (no sign of Megan Markle though!)

Toronto Sign

We also got a taste of Toronto’s underground city - if you love shopping this is the place to go! There are more than 30km of restaurants, shops and entertainment making it one of the biggest underground complexes in the world.

Then it was onto the highlight of the day… the CN Tower, a 553 metre high communications and observation tower.  A 58 second lift ride took us to the observation deck.
CN Tower
What can we say?! It's a mind blowing view of the city and on a clear day you can even see the mist from Niagra Falls - cue lots of selfies!

The viewing area is famous for its glass floor which is definitely not for the faint hearted. After being reassured by a guide there that it can withstand the weight of 35 moose (not sure how they checked that), we both managed to not only step on the glass but walk over it!

Day One in Toronto

2nd May 2018

We’ve been asked to present the radio show from many places over the years, including local businesses, schools and listeners houses, but never from a studio 3,500 miles away in Canada.

No disrespect to Springs restaurant at Salisbury District Hospital, or Amesbury Archer Primary School, but this could be the most glamorous location yet!

Toronto 1
The chance to be on the inaugural British Airways flight from Gatwick to Toronto was exciting enough, but to spend a few days exploring the city and taking in the sights was an opportunity too good to turn down.

“Canada’s biggest city is the most culturally diverse on the planet” says the write-up for the new route in the BA inflight magazine - a strong claim, and we’ll have just 3 days to put that to the test.

Toronto 2
All in the name of research, of course, as this is the prize we have to give away at the end of the week.  On Friday morning you could be packing your bags, cancelling your milk and exchanging some dollars ready for a magnificent trip of a lifetime.
