This is an exciting opportunity to join Dstl’s Counter Terrorism and Security (CTS) Division as a member of the Forensics and Identity (F&I) Team.  

 As a Laboratory Technician you will support the day to day running if the DNA Forensic Research Laboratories at Porton Down.   Working with the DNA Research team on a wide variety of tasks, no one day will be the same. You could be involved in DNA recovery, maintaining and operating equipment or on anti-contamination techniques.

In this role you will: 
- Maintain and run forensic DNA analysis equipment 
- Extract DNA using EZ1 work stations 
- Work with the DNA research team on various tasks such as DNA recovery, anti-contamination techniques, and evaluation of new techniques and equipment. 
- Lead research projects where appropriate, under the direction of the DNA technical lead and with the support of the research team 
- Support the day to day running of the DNA forensic research labs at Porton Down.

This role sits within a team of approximately 24 team members who are brigaded together as a capability; this resource pool is allocated across a range of projects and programmes. 
This role does not have any budgetary or line management responsibility. 

GCSE (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science 

A-Level in Chemistry or Biology is desirable (but not essential). Previous experience or additional qualifications will also be considered.

- Basic technical background in DNA forensics

Between £22,000 and £27,500 Per Annum
