NPD Buyer



This new position will be responsible for sourcing and ordering new ingredients.

The position will be based in Salisbury, Wiltshire with some travel to other sites. You will be responsible for ensuring that the ingredients and packaging meet specification, including cost parameters with achievable lead times and are approved by each department. In addition you will need to negotiate terms with suppliers and assist with the implementation of packaging improvement projects and manage the artwork approval processes.

Principle Accountabilities/ Duties & Responsibilities:

•Proactively source new ingredients which allow the development department to develop exciting and innovative products. Search for new suppliers via internet / magazines / trade shows etc.

•Send seasonal invitations to suppliers requesting new and innovated products.

•Work closely with the development team, ensuring that all new product requests are dealt with within required time scales. Regular attendance at product launch meetings and keeping team advised of any new product material issues.

•Samples are in on time for customer samples and trials.

•Quotes are in on time for costings to be completed.

•Communication of accurate and relevant information to other departments.

•Ensure that correct specifications are passed to the Technical team for all new product launches. Specifications are checked to see if product meets customer guidelines.

•Negotiate prices with suppliers and ensure best terms are sought in line with approved costings and ensure that new products are “fit for purpose” for production.

•Ordering of new materials (ingredients and packaging) for first production launches.

•Manage and work closely with other departments in implementing packaging improvement projects as directed by Packaging Technologist to ensure no delays to implementation.

•Meet with suppliers on a regular basis

•Assist other sites within the Group with sourcing requirements

•Assist Group Buying team as required


Skills, Experience, and Personal Attributes:

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate the capability to negotiate and purchase materials from a range of suppliers. Some purchasing and buying experience, particularly in the food industry would be an advantage, but not essential as training and development can be provided for the right applicant.

To be successful in the role you will also need to show:

•Excellent organisation and motivation

•Ability to work on own initiative and independently to deliver results

•Excellent IT skills, ideally including use of an integrated MRP system

•Excellent communication skills with ability to build strong relationships with suppliers

•Ability to analyse problems, identify and manage solutions

Working hours

Monday – Friday 

8:00 – 5:00 

Between £18,000 and £20,000 Per Annum
