It's the title every food store wants, but Which? says we need look no further than Marks and Spencer.

The consumer giant's taken on the tough job (!) of checking the country's mince pies to find out which is the UK's very best.

Marks & Spencer has scooped the top prize.

They scored 87% in a blind taste test of 11 premium pies.

The tasting panel from Which?, made up of food industry experts, said the M&S option had a 'buttery pastry' and a "quintessentially Christmassy aroma".


Cheaper alternatives like Iceland's luxury mince pies and Asda's extra special all butter luxury versions were runners up in the contest.

Iceland lost points for 'not enough spice', while Asda was let down by 'slightly dry pastry'.

Waitrose's No. 1 all butter mince pies was criticised as 'claggy' by one expert judge.

Morrisons' best all butter deep filled mince pies were lacking 'any distinctive flavour or spicing' as well as undercooked pastry.

At the bottom of the table was Spar's luxury all butter mince pies.

They were judged to have 'bland and under baked' pastry and and 'overly sweet' filling.
