A new clinic's opened on Devizes Road, to help people who are suffering thinning hair or baldness to get their confidence back.

The Wiltshire Trichology Centre can provide testing to find out why patients might be losing their crowning glory.

They'll assess genetic history, personal hair care, diet, medication, general health and other factors to gain a diagnosis.

Treatments can then be prescribed to correct hair loss problems.

EXPERTS IN THEIR FIELD:

The Centre, which is based within Sarum Physiotherapy on Devizes Road, has two experts to help patients.

Marilyn Sherlock has been practicing for more than 30 years and specialises in hair and scalp disorders, as well as working on medico-legal cases involving human hair or the scalp.

Dr John Gray has also recently joined the team, bringing with him a wealth of experience and an international reputation.

He's been telling Spire FM more about his passion for helping patients:

WHO CAN BE HELPED?

The Wiltshire Trichology Centre has a history of treating patients with a range of conditions - they include:

  • Alopecia
  • Folliculitis
  • Eczema
  • Ovarian cyst syndrome
  • Male Pattern Baldness
  • Psoriasis
  • Tinea (otherwise known as ringworm)
  • Chemical damage

CANCER PATIENTS CAN ALSO BENEFIT:

The clinic can also treat people who may have suffered hair loss as a result of chemotherapy.

Dr John Gray explains how important that aspect of their work can be:

"The classic hair loss confidence that people know about is women having cancer treatment and losing their hair. Many patients that I've dealt with over the years were frankly more concerned with their hair loss than they were with their treatment for the cancer because it's your signal.

"It's what separates you from the next person, it's the one defining factor that we have that makes us unique. If it comes out, or if you've lost a lot of it, it is very impactful on your self-esteem. Some people often just won't go out because of it."
