One of the best-known male voice choirs in Wales will make their first visit to the city since 2012.

This 75-strong choir will be performing in a concert at St Andrew's United Reformed church on the Avenue, on Friday 1st March.

Starting at 7.30pm, the concert will suit all tastes, with music ranging from the traditional to the modern, "from hymns to Freddie Mercury".

There will be arrangements of well known classics and some samples of newer music such as Bui Doi from Miss Saigon.

The choir's compere, Barri Hurford-Jones, will be remembered as headmaster for 16 years of Bitterne Park Comprehensive School in Southampton.

Now living in retirement, he has provided introductions at more than 150 of the choir's concerts, in churches around the UK as well as other grand concert halls and cathedrals around Europe and the US and Canada.

He hopes to meet up with former staff and pupils of Bitterne Park at this concert, in one of his favourite venues.

The 1st of March is a significant date for Welsh people at home and abroad, as it marks the day of their patron saint, St David. It is likely that daffodils will be much in evidence on the night.

Tickets, priced at £10, can be obtained from Jeff James on 07780 667825 or 02380 637989, from Terry Morrison on 01794 513015 or you can book online with Ticketsource.

Proceeds from the concert will be forwarded to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
