'Get ready to glow' at Hamsphire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance's first ever Dash in the Dark, a 5km with a difference.

The run will take place at Southampton Common on the evening of Saturday 21st September 2019.

Runners will experience different missions involving light, sound and music as they run, dash, skip, jog or walk around the 5km route.

  • Mission 1: Participants will be encouraged to battle the winds through this tunnel to reach the helicopter landing pad.
  • Mission 2: Participants will dance through a neon night party station, a tunnel filled with green spinning lights.
  • Mission 3: Sometimes the crew deal with casualties in noisy clubs, so participants will enjoy pumping music through tunnel number 3.
  • Mission 4: For the final station, participants will use neon illuminations to guide through fog desinged to immitate low cloud cover.

The warm up start at 7:15pm and the race starts at 7:30pm, participants are encouraged to paint their faces with neon paints, don fancy dress and use glow sticks to light up the night.

The route is softly lit and paved throughout and head torches are essential.

HIOWAA's Events Fundraiser, Nicole Davies, said:

"HIOWAA began night flying in January 2016 and last month 19% of flights were flown during the hours of darkness.

"Fundraising challenges such as Dash in the Dark help to raise the vital funds needed to keep our life-saving service operational, both day and night. Every penny raised on the night will help us save another life"

The HIOWAA are hoping to raise £30,000 which will cover the costs of two pairs of night vision googles, to aid the team during their night time operations.

Online registration is now open with prices listed on the website, and runners are urged to register early to secure a place. Each participant will receive an official Dash in the Dark t-shirt and a glow in the dark medal at the finish line.
