Having a bonfire? Let the Fire Brigade know

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue is asking us to keep them informed if we're having a 'controlled burn'.

Many of the emergencies that firefighters are called out to are reported with good intentions, but turn out to be bonfires or land clearances.

Our local brigade say that can be a strain on resources, but can put crews and the public at risk when they respond under 'blue light' conditions.

So they're calling on us to let them know if we're planning on starting what they describe as a 'controlled burn'.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

If you're having a bonfire, either in our garden, on farmland and in an open area, the advice is to call Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Control on 0306 799 0019.

We're asked to tell them certain details:

  • The location of the fire
  • Times you're planning to let it burn
  • Contact number for whoever's responsible for the site

You can also fill in an online form if you'd prefer.

The Fire and Rescue Service has already had a number of people reporting their fires, and they've posted on Twitter to say they're grateful for that:
