Who's eligible to vote in your house?

Wiltshire Council's about to start sending out their annual canvass to update the electoral roll.

Every year, the local authority is duty bound to send out the forms to make sure everyone living in local households is listed on the register.

They'll be posted out to 223,000 homes across the county.

WHAT TO DO WHEN THE CANVASS ENVELOPE ARRIVES

We're being asked to check the details and respond accordingly.

Last year, 91.69% of Wiltshire residents let the Council know if the details are correct, or if they need updating.

Carlton Brand, Wiltshire Council Executive Director and Electoral Registration Officer for Wiltshire, said: 

"People have a legal obligation to confirm their details and I encourage them to do it as soon as possible. We had a tremendous online and digital response last year and I hope even more people use that option this time round. For every electronic response we receive we're saving money that can be spent on vital council services."

HOW TO RESPOND

You can do it by post, phone, text or online.

To confirm that all the details are correct, you can do that by: 

  • Visiting www.householdresponse.com
  • Calling 0800 197 9871
  • Text NOCHANGE to 80212
  • Return the information by post in the pre-paid envelope included with the form

You will need to use the security codes printed at the top of the letter to confirm that.

Please don't throw away the letter when it arrives through your door - it has to be filled in and sent back to Wiltshire Council

If any details are incorrect, or you need to update the details of eligible voters at their address:

  • Visit www.householdresponse.com by using the security codes provided at the top of the household enquiry form
  • You can also amend the form by hand and send it back in the prepaid envelope provided
  • If anyone has been added to the form, they will still need to register to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote though - providing your date of birth and national insurance number

WHY DO WE NEED TO RESPOND

Every household in Wiltshire gets a form every year, and it's used to collect information to ensure anyone who is eligible to register at the property is actually registered.

It is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT to provide the information requested to ensure it is up-to-date and accurate.

If you haven't responded reminder letters will be sent out in due course.

If there still isn't a response, trained volunteers will conduct house calls to assist people with getting the information back to Wiltshire Council.
