Top baby names in Wiltshire revealed

How popular is your child's name?

The Office for National Statistics has revealed the top baby names in the county.

Figures show 50 newborns were given the names George, Harry or Oliver in 2018 although this was six fewer than the the previous top ranker Harry!

Meanwhile, 46 babies made Olivia the top girls' name in Wiltshire in 2018 - 10 more than the year before.

Nationally Oliver remained the most popular name for boy in England and Wales for the sixth year in the row whilst the female variant of the name, Olivia, topped the girl's list for the third year in succession.

Nick Stripe from the Office for National Statistics said:

"Arthur surged into the top 10 boys' names for the first time since the 1920s, and Ada jumped into the girls' top 100 for the first time in a century too, both perhaps inspired by characters in the BBC TV drama Peaky Blinders."


The number of newborn girls named by Alexa more than halved in a year.

There were 118 Alexas born in England and Wales in 2018 compared with 301 the year.

It seems parents may want to avoid confusion with the Amazon virtual situation which answers to the same name!

The growth in the use of technology assistants in our homes may help to explain why the number of baby girls named Alexa has more than halved compared with 2017.Communicating with young children can be hard enough at the best of times.
