STORM NAMES 2019/20: Is yours on the list?

The new list of names for severe weather's been released by the Met Office - with some interesting choices!

The forecasters in the UK and Ireland come up with a rundown each year of what this autumn and winter's storms will be called.

The Met Office and Met Eireann ran a competition to put forward suggestions for the names.

Here's what they've come up with:

Derrick Ryall, head of public weather services at the Met Office, said:

"We were delighted with the public response to our call for names earlier this year and are really pleased storm naming has been embraced by press, media and public to better communicate the potential impacts of severe weather, so people are better prepared when it matters."

Watch out for Storm Dennis, Willow and Jan this year!

WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT THE NAMES CHOSEN?

Among the choices for this year is Olivia, which was revealed last week as the most popular name for newborn girls in the country over the last year.

Maura is also on the list - which could hark back to this summer, when a contestant on Love Island with the same name proved to be one of the most stormy characters in the villa!

There's also Ellen, and that could be a nod to England's top goalscorer at the Women's World Cup in France - Ellen White.

Noah's a poignant choice too, given the Biblical references to Noah's Ark and it needing to be built as a result of a huge storm.

The letters Q, U, X, Y and Z aren't included in the list, in line with international storm naming conventions.
