Braemar Lodge has played host to a themed afternoon, inspired by one of their residents' past holidays to Honolulu.

The Hawaiian party included some inflatable palm trees, beach balls, hula hoops and a limbo game!

They also brought in a 'beach bar' serving cocktails, mocktails and fruit to guests.

It was all influenced by one resident's memories of trips to the famous Waikiki surf beach years ago.

Karen Pinhorn, from the Companionship team at the Colten Care home said:

"Because she's not allowed to fly now, she can't go to Hawaii any more, so we thought we'd bring Hawaii to her!

"We regularly organise a special day in response to residents' wishes and our Hawaiian party proved a great idea with everyone joining in."

Breamar Lodge became a Hawaiian beach bar for the afternoon, and it went down a treat with the residents!

Residents and staff donned Hawaiian dress for the afternoon, chilled out on sun loungers and listened to the soundtrack of Elvis Presley's movie Blue Hawaii to get into the mood!

Resident Dora Williams said:

"Hawaii is known as a beautiful, relaxing place to go on holiday and the people have a reputation for being friendly and welcoming. Our party was beautiful, friendly, relaxing and welcoming too."

The day was also a way for the care home to show some support for their chosen charity for this year, Alabare.

Everyone going along to the party made a donation to the Salisbury based cause, towards support for homeless and vulnerable people across the South West.
