Nearly 300 people have signed up to take on Naomi House and Jacksplace's Clarendon Way Walk.

The number of people that have agreed to take part in 2020 is the highest they've ever had at this time of the year.

For the first time this year, there is also another event for people to sign up to, with the new 52 mile 'Ultimate Clarendon' challenge, which takes place overnight.

The Ultimate Clarendon challenge will take place overnight

The walkers set off at dusk from Salisbury city centre before trekking through the night to get to Winchester before sunrise, they then join the group doing the usual 26 mile course by walking back to the city.

More than 100 people are going to take on the new walk on Saturday 6th June.

The annual 'Classic Clarendon' challenge will follow a different route to the one over night and will have to navigate varied terrain, stiles, hills, and wildlife.

There are a number of different routes available for walkers to suit all abilities

As well as the Classic and Ultimate Clarendon walks, there are other options for us to take part in too:

  • Dusk til Dawn - the same as the Ultimate Clarendon taking walkers from Salisbury to Winchester overnight on June 6th, but without the return leg too
  • Half Way Clarendon Way Walk on Sunday 7th June is a 12 mile route from Broughton to Salisbury
  • New for 2020 is the Mini Clarendon too - that's a 5 mile walk from Pitton to Salisbury, designed for families with children to take part

It's the charity's biggest annual fundraising event and brings in vital money for the hospice services they provide.

They want to raise £150,000, enough to pay for 125 nights of vital care for children and young adults.

The annual event has been a big fundraiser for the charity over recent years

Charlotte Patrick, Events Fundraiser said:

"We've had so much support for our 26 mile Classic Clarendon Way Walk in previous years, but for people to take the plunge to trek 26 miles through the night or the whole 52 mile night and day challenge is astounding! This event gives supporters the perfect opportunity to take on a new challenge while raising money for Naomi House & Jacksplace, supporting hundreds of children and young adults with life limiting illnesses, as well as their families."
