The 2020 UK Hard Water Index, which ranks locations across the UK, has placed Salisbury joint 20th.

Salisbury beat both Swindon and Southampton who sit at 15th and 17th, but had a higher amount of hard water than Bournemouth and Brighton.

Compiled by Harvey Water Softeners, the list ranks locations based on the latest milligrams of calcium carbonate per litre levels for each area, the metric used to measure the severity of hard water.

The 'hardness' of our water has being something we've come to expect over the years

Ipswich topped the rankings for the very hardest supply, closely followed by St Albans and Stevenage, while Edinburgh and Plymouth were ranked with having the softest water.

Water quality can have a negative effect on a number of things in your everyday life.

Home cleaning, skin, hair, appliances and bills are just some of the things hard water can affect, meaning residents of locations that rank low on the index can enjoy the best bubble baths, glossier hair and reduced product lime scale.

Don't you just *love* that limescale?!

Tony Jones, General Manager at Harvey Water Softeners, said:

"While many people often refer to how the hardness of water can affect its taste, it’s actually the other implications of hard water on the home and to lives in general that are greater causes for concern.

“If you have ever moved from the north to areas in the south of England, you may have noticed it’s harder to give your home that shiny finish when cleaning and this is typically due to the lime scale and scum caused as a result of hard water. It can even affect how you wash your hair, clean your car and how you ensure your skin feels moisturised throughout the day!”
