Government sets up nationwide WhatsApp group for Covid-19 info

An official, free-to-use service has been started up to provide advice on the coronavirus pandemic.

The Government says the aim is to 'combat the spread of misinformation' and 'further reduce the burden on NHS services'.

It's an automated service, with the latest advice, details of case numbers, and much more.

HOW TO SIGN UP

  • Add the number 07860 064422 to your contacts
  • Message that number on WhatsApp with the word 'hi'
  • You'll get a reply to confirm you've signed up
  • Message back with the number options listed to get further information on that subject

Professor Yvonne Doyle, Medical Director, Public Health England, said:

"This service will help us ensure the public has a trusted source for the right information about coronavirus, updated with the latest public health guidance and providing assurance that they are not misled by any of the false information circulating."
