New fitness test at Wiltshire College & University Centre

Was Martin Starke as fit and healthy as he *thinks* he is?

If youโ€™re interested in fitness then you have probably come across the words 'vo2 max' at some point during your training or reading.  

The new Sports Science Lab at Wiltshire College & University Centre Salisbury Campus is kitted out for testing anyone from amateur runners to elite athletes and footballers, so we sent Spire FM Breakfast presenter Martin Starke along with his trainers to find out more.

Vo2 max is the maximum volume of oxygen that a person can use during exercise.  

The test is simple, run as fast as you can, for as long as you can.  


Dan Racey, Deputy Head of Department - Health & Life Sciences at Wiltshire College Salisbury explained more about the facility on Southampton Road: 

"It's a brand new facility, we call it the Sports Science Lab.  Within there we can do gas analysis, blood analysis, treadmill on the bike, we have the capability to go remote and take it up ...our football academies in the north of the county, basically doing a variety of different tests"

The testing enables students to advise on many different aspects of fitness, health and wellbeing.

For Martin's age [deleted] a score of 35 - 38 would be 'average', so how did he get on...
