They have produced online resources for families to help teach young people how they can stay safe at home.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service's Education Team are introducing a new fire safety topic each week as they try to help children who are learning at home.

Each topic is based around a story that children can learn about, with some activities they can also take part in like colouring sheets or "Meet the Firefighter" challenges.

As everyone is spending a bit more time at home during the pandemic, they want young people to know how best to stay safe while indoors.

MEET THE FIREFIGHTER

Education Coordinator Tess Cross said:

"To help children understand what they must do to help them stay safe during this pandemic, we have introduced the Covid-19 Mini Superheroes, who show children how they can be superheroes too. We hope that the variety of resources will appeal to children and help them understand what they can do to stay safe and well.

On behalf of the Chief Fire Officer we would like to say a massive thank you to all school and pre-school staff who are looking after the children of key workers who may still be going into school, so that their parents and carers can continue to provide essential and emergency cover during the pandemic."

They have tried to cover all areas of their curriculum including:

  • Maths
  • Literacy
  • Art
