The Covid-19 restrictions means the College is having to embrace technology to introduce themselves to new students starting in September.

S6C has held its first ever Virtual Freshers Day to give people planning to study there in the next academic year a chance to have a look around and learn more about what to expect there.

Principal Simon Firth kicked off the day with a video message for the potential students, before a video tour of the Tollgate Road, and clips of trips and enrichment activities they could get involved in.

S6C took their annual induction day online, as students aren't able to visit in person right now

Students also got a chance to meet their new teachers with live online Q&A sessions.

Vice-Principal of S6C, Louise Henderson, said:

"The teaching staff were incredibly impressed with the level of engagement and maturity of the year 11 students in the online sessions. Students were thoughtful and were prepared with a range of questions to  find out more about what they are going to study in the courses.  Staff are really excited to teach our new year 12's in September  and are looking forward to having the students in the college where they will form their new teaching groups and friendships."

S6C say they've been 'proud of the resilience' shown by students during the Covid-19 pandemic

Current students shared their stories of why they chose the College and what like about it.

They included Ruben, from Year 12, who created a film montage about his course, and his contribution to an exhibition at Salisbury Library earlier this year.

Art teacher, Laurence Rushby, said:

"Ruben was great at expressing how much fun he had in the course. The session had a good vibe."

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS ON THEIR NEXT STEP

Salisbury 6th Form has also been holding one of their Development Days online too - these are normally arranged each term, to give advice and guidance to students about their future.

They're also held separately from lessons, to avoid students missing out on their planned timetable.

The latest sessions included speakers from the University of Portsmouth, University of Bath, ASK Apprenticeships, former students and others to talk through the options for students after they finish at S6C.

S6C Pastoral Lead, Rebecca Anderson said:

"We are so proud of the resilience our students have shown in lockdown; they have remained committed to their studies, whilst also using their time to research future options and develop their personal skills. Our students know that there are always people who will help, whether we are choosing next steps, or looking after our mental or physical wellbeing - staying connected is so important."
