Salisbury athlete wins Sports Achievement prize

Lucy-Jane Matthews has combined success in the classroom with more on the running track as she hurdles her way to the award.

Lucy-Jane is just 17 years old, but has had an incredible year in her international athletics career. 

She's currently number one in the under 18's European 100m hurdles rankings, has been ranked number 4 for under 18's 100m hurdles worldwide, and is the UK number one for both the under 17's 60m hurdles and under 20's 100m hurdles.

She also won the South of England under 17 title in 60m hurdles with a championship best performance, and had the 3rd fastest ever time at the National Under 17 championships. 

She also won an under 20 bronze medal at the European championships at just 16 years old, representing Great Britain.

Lucy-Jane's got a bright future ahead of her and is aiming for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024

Pair this with Lucy-Jane's impressive academic achievements at school, where she was the highest achiever at her school in her GCSE's, it's been an outstanding year for Lucy-Jane.

Lucy was nominated by her grandad, Stan Matthews, who says he is "so proud of her".
