Defence Secretary sees work of Porton Down's DSTL

Michael Fallon has visited the site to see how they support our armed forces on the frontline.

The Defence Secretary has been seeing for himself how staff at Porton Down's DSTL are supporting our armed forces around the world.

Michael Fallon (pictured below) has been visiting the site, as part of their 100th anniversary celebrations this year.

He was shown an original Enigma coding machine (pictured top), used to decipher German messages during World War 2, as well as a modern day encryption device.

Michael Fallon MP said:

"Dstl continues to carry out vital work at a site which has a long history of protecting our Armed Forces, whether through the development of respirators, or innovative new body armour. The ground breaking research continues to help defend the UK from a multitude of threats."

He met with scientists, engineers and analysts on site to show off the support that DSTL gives to the armed forces on frontline operations, in forensic analysis and in cyber defence.
