80 fire-fighters tackle blaze at thatched cottage near Fordingbridge

More than 80 fire-fighters have tackled a huge blaze at a thatched property in Damerham.

Emergency services were called to the scene in South End, The Common just before 4.30pm on Sunday (7th May).

14 fire engines and support crews including a team from Fordingbridge helped put out the blaze in the roof of the property.

A special team from South Central Ambulance Service were also sent to the scene to provide medical support as it was unsafe for a regular ambulance to attend.

It took the crews more than eight hours to get the blaze under control.

No one was injured but two dogs were rescued from the first floor of the property and reunited with their owner.

Investigations show it would have been caused by sparks in the chimney that spread to the roof.

Crews have been back to the scene this morning to check on the damage too:
