Peter & Carol Baker urge you to help, and say: "...don't get tired with hearing this news, it's so easy to switch off."

A retired Salisbury couple are expanding the incredible work they do, collecting, sorting, and sending humanitarian aid to refugees fleeing the fighting in Syria and Iraq.

For the past three years Peter & Carol Baker have been working alongside the 'Samara's Aid Appeal' charity.

In the past all donated clothes and toiletries were stockpiled at their Laverstock home but from now on three more homes will be helping out.

Carol explains how she and Peter feel about the rapid growth, and having to expand into 3 more homes:

"Mixed really, because it means we don't have quite so much of a handle on everything that's going on because other people are involved, which of course is marvellous!"

"But I would encourage people at this stage to go through their clothes and think, particularly for the children and babies, if you've finished with what you're using and think about what you need rather than what you want, then consider us, so long as the items are good quality and clean."

Peter says their latest plea is for the 'Summer aid appeal':

"We are now well under way with the current appeal for Samara's Aid for Syria and Iraq. Our appeal; for good quality clothing, bedding etc and new items for the special Care Packs and Dignity Bags, together with donations to help the medical work; will run until 29th May."

"We're based as usual in our home in Laverstock, though this time we've expanded into three other homes in the Salisbury area for collection and sorting, and a few days for sorting sessions in St Paul's Church towards the end of the time."

"We are most grateful to the many Spire FM listeners who have been so generous in giving to this appeal. The need continues, now the present fighting is even more severe."

The charity that Peter and Carol work with, Samara's Aid Appeal, supports Syrian & Iraqi IDP's (Internally Displaced People).

All the donations, of good quality clothing, coats, bedding, blankets and personal items for women, men, children and babies, will go to those who have fled the fighting in Syria and are living in various camps in the region.

There are four types of 'Care Pack' that can be put together, containing brand new items for an expectant mother, baby, family or a vulnerable woman in need of humanitarian aid. These packs are then sent to displaced people, refugees and people in Syria and Iraq.

In this moving video you can see a recent care pack being opened by a Syrian woman, one of the 6.3 million internally displaced people (IDP'S) in Syria. It's a touching moment, as she realises that someone here in the U.K. showed enough concern and care to fill a box with these basic essential items, and have it sent around the world to her and her baby.
