The roof is up, the flooring down and the hanger doors are on!

Work for the new custom built home for Wiltshire's Air Ambulance is progressing well.

Everything is on track for the £5.1m base in Semington near Melksham to be complete by February although it won't be till much later in 2018 that the helicopter will begin operating from the site.

The base at Outmarsh Farm will bring together the air ambulance helicopter, aircrew and charity team onto one site for the first time.

At the moment the helicopter and aircrew are based at a hangar at Wiltshire Police headquarters in Devizes, while the charity team is based in offices on an industrial estate in Calne.

With the new base the helicopter will still be able to reach any part of the county within 11 minutes like it does now.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance launched an appeal to raise £1.25m towards the cost of the project last year.

Barbara Grey from the charity is grateful for the support:

"People have been very generous and we can't say a big enough thank-you for the support. We are over half way but we do need that final push so we can get over the finishing line and finish the build and equip our news home."

A further £1millon for the project has come from the LIBOR fund, monies from fines levied on the banking industry for manipulating the LIBOR rate whilst an anonymous benefactor has given £2.5 towards the project.
