Final prep for huge Rockbourne Fair for Stars Appeal

Rockbourne Fair (Gemma Heath)

1:28pm 13th October 2017

The countdown is on to one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Stars Appeal, with organisers telling us they're up for the challenge!

Salisbury Racecourse will play host to the Rockbourne Fair next week (Wednesday October 18th to Friday October 20th.

The proceeds from the shopping event will go to the Salisbury District Hospital charity and last year it brought in £47,000 for the cause.

Jane Corani from the committee explains what's in store for them over the next few days:

"We have been working all year, it takes a long time to select the stalls. The Rockbourne Fair finishes and we start the preparation for the next one straight away. At the moment the big issue is getting a square peg into a round hole, because the stalls are different sizes every year and we're trying to fit them into the space. A Fair which has 100 stalls is a massive logistic exercise, especially when it's spread over two floors."

Around 4,000 shoppers went through the gates last time around, and there are hopes to beat that in 2017.

Jane Corani from the organising committee says there's real variety to tempt the shoppers:

"We have about 35-40% new stalls this year. People say it's the same thing every year, no it isn't! It's food, clothes, beautiful jewellery, furniture, lamps, stocking fillers, Christmas presents, knitware, cashmere, decorations, something for everyone. If you can't find anything there, I'd be struggling with that!"

OPENING TIMES:

The Fair's on for three days, open for the following hours:

  • Wednesday 18th: 10.00am - 5.00pm
  • Thursday 19th: 10.00am - 7.30pm
  • Friday 20th: 10.00am - 3.30pm

There's free parking throughout and all the stalls are under cover.

TICKET PRICES:

  • Adults: £5.00 (£3.00 after 4.00pm on Thursday)
  • Students aged 12+: £1.50
  • Children: FREE
