Staff at a Salisbury supermarket, and a police officer, have been assaulted by a woman in what's been described as a 'frightening' incident.

This happened at the Southampton Road Tesco at around 7.15pm on Tuesday evening (January 16th).

A woman was challenged in the store by staff after it's thought she was opening cosmetics.

The staff were assaulted, as was an officer called out to arrest her.

A 28 year old woman from the Warminster area has been taken into custody on suspicion of common assault and assaulting an officer.

Salisbury Police Inspector Pete Sparrow said:

"We are keen to speak to any witnesses to this frightening incident which left staff understandably shaken, though thankfully nobody was seriously injured.

"We will not tolerate abuse of this kind on officers or members of the public."

If you were in the store that evening and might be able to help police with any information, you can call them on 101, or give information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
