Stone Ranger joins team at Stonehenge

The heritage sites new buses have finally got names, and they're pretty great!

Let us introduce you to Stonehenge's newly named employees!

Children around South Wiltshire have been putting their brains together to come up with names for the Stonehenge shuttle buses.

Schools close to the stones got a chance to compete to pick the names, with the six competition winners being rewarded with a special expert-led Discovery Visit to Stonehenge for their whole class.

English Heritage Shuttle Bus Named by Amesbury C of E Primary

They will be picked up from their schools in the bus they named, to enjoy their visit to Stonehenge and a chance to explore the most outstanding prehistoric monument in the world.

SO WHAT HAVE THEY BEEN NAMED?

  • The Stone Ranger chosen by Amesbury Church of England Primary (pictured below)
  • Sarsen chosen by Durrington Infant School
  • Bluestone chosen by Durrington Junior School
  • Bowman choen by Amesbury Archer Primary School
  • Aubrey chosen by Shrewton CE Primary School
  • The Rock chosen by Larkhill Primary School

English Heritage Shuttle Bus Named by Amesbury C of E Primary

The buses transport over a million visitors a year from the Stonehenge visitor centre to the prehistoric stone circle in the heart of the World Heritage Site and each of the new buses will have the school's winning name displayed on the back.
