It's still dicey on the roads but key bus services, like the R1 to Salisbury District Hospital, and the X3 bus have resumed this morning (Sat 3rd March).

  • Salisbury Reds resume bus services
  • Several main roads remain closed around Salisbury
  • The advice is still NOT to travel

No more snow is expected to fall across Wiltshire and Hampshire this morning (Sat 3 March)

Instead it's BLACK ICE that's causing problems as the wintry blast continues. The Met Office has a YELLOW WARNING of ice through to 11.00am Saturday. Then sleet and rain are expected to trigger more of a thaw.

In Salisbury, Police say they had a nonstop evening shift, dealing with 1 car crash, helping numerous motorists stuck in the snow, locating 3 missing people and rescuing a man who'd fallen into a river. Fortunately he was rescued very quickly by members of the public and taken to hospital for a checkup.

Officers also checked out reports of a homeless man asleep in a doorway, and concerns for his safety. They've also investigated a flood near Fisherton Island.

The city's Police teams have been supported all last night by WILSAR (Wiltshire Search and Rescue) and a number of Special Constables. Without them they may not have been able to get the help to those that needed it.

People appear to be heeding the advice not to drive unless absolutely necessary and are staying home.

Gritting lorries have been out all night but untreated roads are still treacherous across both counties. The main roads appear to be improving.

While the freezing weather is improving in many areas, there's now a threat of floods.

Salisbury Reds have Tweeted to say they're intending to run all Park and Ride services this morning in Salisbury along main roads only.

The X3 bus between Salisbury and Bournemouth is also running.

And the great news is that the Red 1 Service is able once again to serve Salisbury District Hospital today.  But Devizes Road is unusable for buses so until further notice there'll be no service at The Heath end of Red 1.

The X4 bus between Salisbury, Amesbury, Larkhill and Pewsey is NOT operating.

The X5 bus between Salisbury. Amesbury, Bulford. Pewsey and Swindon is also not running.

That's due to road closures.
