Wynne Ranger took a ride around Salisbury in a horse drawn carriage to mark her milestone birthday!

While much of the country was watching the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex on a carriage ride through the streets of Windsor at the weekend (Saturday May 19th), another very special occasion has been marked in the same way in Salisbury.

Wynne Ranger (pictured here) was taken around our city in a horse-drawn carriage on that afternoon too!

That was to celebrate her 105th birthday, with the ride arranged by her family.

Granddaughter Suzanne Ranger explains where the carriage took her:

"We arranged for a horse-drawn carriage to take her from Wilton, through Salisbury, around the Cathedral Close and to a family party that we had at a hotel in Harnham. We had to get special permission to go into the Cathedral Close, because you're not allowed in unless you leave there. But they gave us permission and that was just amazing, it made her day!"

Wynne is still a very spritely lady, at the grand age of 105.

She still lives independently, having moved from Essex to Salisbury three years ago, so she could be closer to family.

Her family say they're 'all so proud of her and she is a complete inspiration to us all'.

She hasn't let her age stop her at all, as she started teaching aerobics at ago 50, learned to drive at age 60, played crown green bowls for years and gained ballroom dancing qualification when she was over 70.
