Royal boost for city following nerve agent attack almost four months ago.

  • Visit from Prince of Wales aims to boost trade in the city.
  • Royal couple met privately with Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey, the police officer left seriously injured following nerve agent attack.
  • Pair presented with hamper of local goodies from Salisbury businesses.

Salisbury has welcomed Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall today (Friday June 22nd).

Their visit aims to support the recovery programme after weeks of disruption as police investigated the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter.

A huge crowd turned out to welcome the royal couple and to spread the word our city is open as normal.

Charles and Camilla were given a hamper of local goods following their visit.

It was presented by the Mayor of Salisbury, Mike Osment, and contained an array of goodies from independent shops including:

  • Silk tie donated by Regent Tailor, 73 New St, Salisbury SP1 2PH
  • Nunton Honey and My Trusty Sunflower Cream (made at Salisbury District Hospital) donated by Salisbury Tourist Information Centre
  • Fudge donated by Roly’s Fudge,

  • Sculpture by local artist Celia Lewis donated by Fisherton Mill
  • Ear defenders donated by Greenfield Guns
  • Salisbury rock, bookmark, pen, magnet, tea towel and Salisbury fudge donated by Hardings of Salisbury
  • Salisbury mug donated by Casa Fina
  • Salisbury fridge magnets donated by Timber Treasures,

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have met the Salisbury police officer left seriously ill after coming into contact with the Novichok used to poison Sergei Skripal and his daughter.

The royal couple had a private meeting with Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey and his family before leaving the Guildhall.

Wiltshire's Chief Constable, Kier Pritchard, has told Spire FM "It's a proud moment" to have recognition for the efforts of his force and other emergency services who dealt with the nerve agent attack.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will be attending a reception within Salisbury Guildhall, where they'll be meeting people involved in the recovery process.

That will include Leader of Wiltshire Council, Baroness Jane Scott; Wiltshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Angus Macpherson; the Chief Constable, Kier Pritchard; and Salisbury Mayor, Councillor Mike Osment.

They'll also be meeting with the first responders who went along to the scene when Sergei and Yulia Skripal were found collapsed in the Maltings on March 4th.

There will be around 100 people at that reception.
