The officer, from Alderholt, spent three weeks in Salisbury District Hospital before being discharged and is still recovering from his ordeal.

Wiltshire's police and crime commissioner, Angus Macpherson, told Spire FM:

"I thought it was very nice that Charles and Camilla met with Nick Bailey and his family."

Prince Charles also met other police officers first on the scene on that fateful day on March 4th.

Wiltshire's Chief Constable, Kier Pritchard, was touched with the royal response.

"He was full of recognition for how our force responded with what became a local, national then a global incident.

It's an absolute privilege for me to be able to take back to my force what he said, it's a really proud moment. "
