Blaze which began on Monday (2nd July) still burning but the MOD say it is being monitored.

A fire on Salisbury Plain which broke out two days ago is still burning.

The MOD say the blaze which started on Monday (2nd July) is being monitored but has been left to burn out.

At its height smoke could be seen 15 miles away.

Photos taken from the cockpit of a plane show just how badly the smoke was at its peak.

The fire is in the impact zone or no-go area of the Salisbury Plain Training Area where live training is conducted.

That's made it difficult to deal with.

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue say it's not something they'd attend unless requested to by the MOD.

There's been criticism from some people on social media for the lack of information from the MOD.

In a statement to Spire FM, an MOD spokesperson said:

“Due to safety reasons, the fire on Salisbury Plain has been left to burn out as there is no threat to life or property. We continue to monitor it to ensure that it remains under control. DIO takes the safety of our military personnel and the public seriously.”
