WORLD CUP: Wiltshire and Hampshire Police expecting busy evening

Both of our local police forces are asking football fans to enjoy England's semi-final, but please act responsibly.

The Three Lions are back in action tonight (Wednesday July 11th), taking on Croatia for a place in the World Cup final.

But that also brings a busy time for police officers across Wiltshire and Hampshire.

We're being asked to be 'mindful' while either out watching out the football or when it comes to the incidents we might call police.

Hampshire Police have told Spire FM News that they've seen a rise in the number of calls they're getting during the World Cup period.

They're asking us to think carefully before calling 999 - using the line if it's a real emergency.

Here's Superintendent Paul Bartolomeo:

If you're calling 101, we're warned to expect a delay in answering calls, or to try again tomorrow when it's less busy.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said:

"We want to wish the England team good luck for their World Cup match tonight.

"It is a very exciting time for the country, but with tensions running high, we would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone to act responsibly and be mindful of their behaviour."

There's more advice from Wiltshire Police on how to enjoy the occasion safely on their website.
