Emergency services attended the scene, close to the cordon at Zizzi's restaurant.

They shut Castle Street between Blue Boar Row and Chipper Lane, but have now confirmed the incident has been dealt with.

Wiltshire Police has posted an update on social media:

Police have confirmed the incident is not connected to the ongoing novichok incident in Salisbury and Amesbury.

The man involved has had full medical checks and now been given the all clear.

They've said:

"We can now confirm that there is no concern for either his health or any wider risk to the public.

"We understand that our initial response to the incident may have looked alarming, but we hope you appreciate why we needed to take this highly precautionary measure.

"We thank you all for your patience and understanding."

A 33 year old man was taken into Melksham custody following the incident and has been given an adult caution for being drunk and disorderly.
