Barely a fortnight after it re-opened... there's news of another long closure planned.

SGN are getting ready for a 25 WEEK long project upgrading their gas network.

From the end of this month there will be phased closures on Shady Bower and then Milford Mill Road.

  • Phase one - approximately 15 weeks

On Saturday 28th July, SGN will temporarily close Shady Bower Road from Godolphin School to the junction with Milford Mill Road for approximately 15 weeks to ensure everyone's safety around the work site.

There will be no access for through traffic and signed diversions will be in plac.

Access will be maintained for residents.

  • Phase two - approximately ten weeks

SGN's work will then progress into Milford Mill Road, which will need to temporarily close for approximately ten weeks from the junction of Shady Bower to the junction with Queen Manor Road.

Access will be maintained for residents but there will be no access for through traffic. Signed diversions will be in place.

SGN's spokesman, Dan Brown, told Spire FM News:

"This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

"Following discussions with Salisbury City Council, Wiltshire Council and the Highways Authority, our project will start on Saturday 28 July 2018 and last approximately 25 weeks. It will involve temporary road closures and signed diversions."

This latest round of closures won't go down well with motorists.

There's still a great deal of anger and frustration after drivers endured more than 10 weeks of closures on Milford Mill Road as a result of repeatedly delayed works on the project developing a Premier Inn hotel and McDonalds restaurant at the junction with the A36 Southampton Road.

Milford Mill Road is one of the city's popular cut-through routes for motorists trying to avoid frequent congestion on the main A36.

A series of problems caused the last set of works on Milford Mill Road to over-run which caused misery for commuters, residents, and local businesses alike.
