Three local mums are trying to a set up a version of the popular running event for children aged 4 to 14.

Sharon Bury, Gemma Gibbard and Victoria Thomas hope to hold the fun run in Churchill Gardens on a Sunday morning provided they can raise enough funding.

The timed run organised by volunteers would be held over 2k.

Parkrun has grown in popularity and there are now over 230 locations across the UK hosting the free weekly event including Andover, Southampton and Moors Valley.

Victoria Thomas, a teaching assistant at Greentrees Primary, told Spire FM she's getting involved because of her 5 year old son Jack:

"He loves running and he has attempted the 5k parkrun on Saturday but it's a bit too far for little legs! It would be great for the younger children of Salisbury, from 4 onwards, to be able to complete an event like this each week. We are aware a fair few families travel to Moors Valley to take part in the junior parkrun there and it would be fantastic to bring an event the same as that to the heart of Salisbury."

Victoria Thomas, one of the local mums hoping to start up Salisbury Junior parkrun.

Park Run UK require a registration fee of £6,000, half of which the organisation provides but the rest has to be raised locally.

The money goes towards start up costs including a defibrillator which is a requirement of holding the event.

Sharon, Emma and Victoria have applied for funding from both Salisbury City Council and Wiltshire Council.

The trio have also set up a Go Fund Me page and hope fellow runners will give their support.

If successful it's hope the junior parkrun will start in the autumn.
