Donations made at the free family pop-up pictures are going to the charity's MRI Scanner campaign.

Cinemania's been held in the former BHS building in the Old George Mall in the Christmas holidays and back in the Spring.

They've been showing family films free of charge, but have also had collection buckets there to take in donations for Salisbury District Hospital's Stars Appeal.

Over the course of all the Cinemania events since the scheme was launched, a total of £2,764 has now been raised.

Old George Mall centre manager Jon Osgood said:

"When we teamed up with The Stars Appeal, we wanted to help them raise as much as possible and I'm thrilled that we've been able to do just that. Cinemania is all about families spending time together, watching films in a relaxed and comfy environment, and it is great that so many of them have dug deep to contribute to such an important charity for the city.

"The work that the charity does is invaluable to so many from across Salisbury and I'd like to thank everyone who donated and played a part in raising such a fantastic total for a worthwhile cause over the last year."

The money raised is going to the Stars Appeal's MRI Scanner campaign, which has a target of £1.5 million for a second machine for our hospital.

The campaign's currently reached over £900,000.

Graham Branagan, Consultant Surgeon and Chair of the Stars Appeal MRI Scanner Campaign said:

"This much appreciated support will take us an important step closer to the £1.5million we need to raise to purchase and install a second MRI scanner at Salisbury District Hospital. Advances in technology and medical expertise mean that MRI scans are becoming ever more useful in finding out how we can provide the most effective care and treatment for patients from new-born babies and children, to the oldest in our society.

"It will mean patients can have their MRI scans faster here at their local hospital and cancer, stroke, heart and many other patients will benefit from the very latest MRI diagnostic techniques. We are hugely grateful to Jon Osgood and his team at the Old George Mall for their ongoing support which will helps so many local people."
