Drivers urged to be aware of slow moving and wide load being escorted through Hampshire and Wiltshire today (10th August).

Wiltshire Police say the load weighing 95 tonnes will enter across the border with Hampshire at the moment.

It's heading to Whatley Quarry near Frome and will follow this route:

  • A303 Westbound from Hampshire to the A36 at Deptford
  • A36 North via Knook and the Warminster by-pass to the A361 at Beckington
  • A361 around Frome to Whatley Quarry

The load, measuring 4.4 metres wide ,4.85 metres high and 22.75 meters long, is made up of a quarry vehicle and will be moved by Smiths Mechanical Services from Mid Glamorgan.

Due to its width, it will take up around one and a half lanes of a standard road. As a result, it will be both slow moving and have the potential to create congestion in places where oncoming traffic will be required to pull in and wait for the load to pass.

Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across this load.

The advice from police is to make sure you allow additional time for your journey.

Volunteer police officers, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public, are escorting the load.
