Wide load heading through Wiltshire

Due to its width, it will take up around one and a half lanes of a standard road and could cause travel issues in the county.

We're told to expect congestion in Wiltshire today as a wide load travels through the county.

The 'abnormal load' will be escorted by Wiltshire Police to try and help with any traffic issues.

The load is due to enter across the border with Hampshire to Torr Works near Shepton Mallet along the following pre-determined route, at 10am:

  • A303 Westbound from Hampshire to the A36 at Deptford
  • A36 North via Knook and the Warminster by-pass to the A361 at Beckington
  • A361 around Frome and onwards to Torr Works (onwards Escort within Avon and Somerset will be at the discretion of the Officer in Charge)

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said;

"Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across this load.

"Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time.

"Police escorting resources are being provided by volunteer Officers, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public."
