Wiltshire Police have given us an update on the investigations into last night's incident at Prezzo (Sunday September 16th).

They've told us that 'enquiries are ongoing' into what happened at the Salisbury branch of the Italian chain.

It's now been confirmed that a 42 year old man and a 30 year old woman were taken ill and were taken to Salisbury District Hospital.

They've also said the cordon at Prezzo will remain in place for the time being.

Salisbury's Prezzo now has a police guard while the circumstances are investigated

Customers who were in Prezzo at the time were taken to the former BHS building in the Old George Mall, where medical checks were carried out.

Tests were also carried out to officially rule out that the pair had been exposed to Novichok.

Detective Sergeant Jonathan Davies-Bateman said:

“Understandably, the incident last night has caused a great deal of concern in the local community. I would firstly, like to thank all of the members of public who were either in Prezzo or the immediate vicinity last night for their support and understanding.

“Although we were able to rule out the presence of Novichok quickly, tests are ongoing to understand what, if anything, the pair have come into contact with which may have caused them to fall unwell. It is crucial that this is done methodically. At this stage, it is unclear as to whether or not a crime has been committed.

“We understand this matter is of significant interest but we would remind everyone that speculation is not helpful and we will update you as soon as we are in a position to do so.”
