The United Reformed Church on Fisherton Street is hosting its second Angel Festival for the next few days.

A Salisbury church is being touched by angels for the next week (from Wednesday 3rd to 6th October) - and we're being welcomed in to see them.

To get an idea of what it's like, think of the St Thomas' Christmas Tree Festival and this is a similar concept.

Organisers Ted and Christine Haines say they're looking forward to seeing everyone:

"We like to encourage people to come in. All the churches need outreach and this is our attempt to do just that.

"We'll have at least 30 angels of various sorts on display so for the first time, I think that's quite encouraging. And from some of the angels that I've seen, the artistic element is superb."

Local organisations have made their own angels for the display and there's a chance for families to make their own during half term.

Donations made during the week will be shared between the church itself and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance - organiser Christine Haines tells us why they've chosen them:

"They're flying angels! In fact, we need to support them because they don't get any Government grants, so it's a charity that needs a lot of support. We know that they are very well liked and appreciated throughout the county."

The Festival's open for us to take a look at the angels in the Salisbury United Reformed Church on Fisherton Street between 10.00am and 1.00pm and 3.00pm and 5.00pm each day.

It's free entry with donations being shared between the church and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Refreshments will be available throughout, along with angel decorations for sale, children's activities and a quiz!

There's other events planned for the week as well, including:

  • Wednesday October 3rd- 10.30am: Concert featuring Woodford Ukulele Band and New Sarum Singers. 7.30pm. (Free)
  • Friday October 5th - 7.30pm: Flower Arranging Demonstration by Graham Harmer - Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner. (£10) 7 flower arrangements will be raffled.
