A planning application's gone in for the site in the Maltings car park for upgrades and changes to their entrances.

The City Council owned site is home to the Shopmobility service, but is in need of some refurbishment, as well as getting new IT and phone systems to bring them a little more up to date.

Back in July, the authority approved £35,000 of funding towards that work.

At that time, it was expected the refurbishment would also mean the city's Tourist Information Centre would relocate into the same building, but that's now been put on hold.

The City Council's decided to go ahead with the work anyway and a planning application has now been submitted to Wiltshire Council.

They've also chosen to press on given that the Maltings redevelopment is expected to take a number of years, and the upgrades will be needed sooner than that's able to be completed.

The most obvious difference will be moving the main entrance for Shopmobility, away from the car park itself.

A new door would be installed on the covered walkway that leads towards the Maltings shopping area.

There'll also be some improvements to the reception area to create more space.

Here's the new floor plan that's being proposed:

If the planning application goes ahead with no issues, work's expected to start on site in the New Year.
