The extension and redevelopment work's been taking place over the last year.

Launch events are being held for the local community today and tomorrow (Friday 9th and Saturday 10th November) to give us a chance to take a look around the new facilities.

The work's cost more than £1.1 million, which has come from housing developer's contributions and support from Wiltshire Council.

The venue's extension is now home to Downton Community Pre-School, with a new play area for outdoor activities, a kitchen for baking lessons, a sensory area and more.

Sarah Nutbeam, chairman of the pre-school, said:

"We are very excited about the fantastic new pre-school in the Memorial Hall Extension. We have worked hard to raise funds, have equipped it with fun and stimulating resources for the children and can't wait to see them enjoying it."

There's also two brand new rooms on the first floor of the existing hall that are now available for community use.

Wi-fi, air conditioning and state of the art audio-visual equipment has also been installed to bring the facilities up to date.

Susan Barnhurst-Davies, Chair of the Downton Memorial Centre said:

"We're expecting the Centre to host everything from conferences and club meetings to yoga classes and networking events - it's such a versatile space that will benefit so many people. We've had a great reaction from everyone who has seen the Centre so far, and it looks like it will be a real hub for local businesses and enterprise."
