He'll be in the city this Thursday to officially kick-start the festive season.

The former world champion hurdler is the man being tasked with the light switch-on duties later this week (Thursday November 15th).

Events are being held in the Salisbury Market Place between 6.00 and 8.00pm that night.

51 year old Colin competed for Great Britain over a number of years in the 110metre hurdles.

He won a silver medal at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, as was crowned World Champion twice (1993 and 1999).

Colin is now an integral part of the commentary team for BBC Athletics, covering every major event since the Athens Olympics in 2004.

He also competed in Strictly Come Dancing in 2005, finishing runner-up in that year.

Colin was also the first male celebrity to score a perfect 40, in the Christmas special the following year.

Acts on stage for Christmas Light Switch-on include Salisbury and Romsey Rock Choir, Sticky Toffee Jazz and local tribute band ABBA's Angels.

There'll be walkabout entertainment this year from a Jester and Bouncing Reindeer.

After the light-switch on itself by Colin and the Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Mike Osment, there'll be the return of the fireworks display from the roof of the Guildhall.

The Christmas light-ons in recent years have been hugely popular, with thousands of people going on.
