A new company has already set its sites on the Southampton Road building.

Sources have revealed to Spire FM that the store is going to shut its doors in March 2019.

The retailer was given the go ahead to shut 50 underperforming shops, with Salisbury's Mothercare store on a closure list leaked to Spire FM News in May 2018.

The baby-care retailer has struggled financially in recent years and say they have a 'large number of loss making stores'.

It’s struck a deal with creditors, putting jobs at risk, but also allowing the retailer to reduce rents at the shops staying open.

PureGym have put in a planning application to take over the Mothercare store when it closes.

The limited company is Britain's largest gym chain, with over a million members across the UK - including in Southampton.

The gym is open 24-hours across the country with plans to do the same in Salisbury.

They've put in a change of use application for the store, with planning to be decided by the 31st December.

15 full and part-time jobs will also be created.
