A church in a village near Fordingbridge will be refreshing the community, not just spiritiually but with festive tipples this Christmas.

The village of Woodgreen is currently without it's pub as the Horse and Groom is up for sale but the local church has stepped forward to host a pop up facility.

Supported by their fantastic village shop and local breweries, St Boniface will offer a licensed social space for locals to raise a glass together.

It'll sell drinks from local suppliers.

Assistant Curate at Avon Valley Partnership Nicky Davies said:

"I am delighted that St Boniface Church in Woodgreen, full of our community Christmas trees, is able to host a pop-up pub! We are aware that our community have been lacking a social place to gather during the closure of our village pub The Horse and Groom. "

Nicky added:

"Some people may think it is unusual for a church to become a pub but just think of the tradition of the monks brewing beer in medieval times. And at the heart of Christianity is the tradition of sharing bread and wine together."

The "Room at the Inn"plans to be open on the following dates and times:

  • Friday 14 December 2018 18.00 - 23.00
  • Saturday 15 December 2018 11.30 - 14.30
  • Friday 21 December 2018 18.00 - 23.00
  • Saturday 22 December 2018 11.30 - 14.30
  • Tuesday 25 December 2018 12.00 - 14.00 - Christmas Day!
