Dave Leeper scooped the South West heat of the School Chef of the Year Competition.

The competition run by the Lead Association for Catering Education (LACA) has been the flagship event for school chefs to showcase their professional skills for more than twenty years.

School chefs from all over Britain registered to take part in this year's competition.

Two Wiltshire schools made it through to the regional finals, Robert Doble from Sandroyd School at Tollard Royale  and Dave Leeper from The Trafalgar School in Downton.

The pair, along with three other contestants, had a maximum of £1.30 to spend and 90 minutes to prepare, cook and serve an imaginative two course menu suitable for serving en masse to 11 year olds.

It was Dave Leeper who impressed the judges with his chargrilled chicken breast with leek & bean ragout and foccacia and warm chocolate orange brownie with forest fruit compote.

"There is no secret formula to participating in the LACA School Chef of the Year Competition. It just requires school cooks with passion, dedication and oodles of culinary skill mixed together with delicious, nutritious dishes prepared with creativity and flair. Every year, this Competition allows us to demonstrate to the wider world both the professional expertise of today's school chefs and the excellent meals they prepare tirelessly every single day in schools across the country".
