A ribbon cutting event's been held in Ludgershall, as the first home in the Army Basing Programme is completed.

917 houses are being built across three sites - Ludgershall, Bulford and Larkhill - to create new accommodation for the soldiers, and their families, who will be returning from Germany to Wiltshire in the summer.

The Army has celebrated the handover of the first new family home by holding a ceremony at the Plumer Estate in Ludgershall, where 242 of the houses are due to be built.

Speaking at the event, Major General Richard Wardlaw, Director Basing and Infrastructure, said:

"It is a privilege to showcase the delivery of these brand new modern homes that will allow our Service families to live in first-class facilities.....

I hope the families moving from Germany and within the UK this summer enjoy these properties for many years to come."

It's not just about the houses though - Baroness Scott of Bybrook, OBE, Leader of Wiltshire Council told Spire FM:

"We have worked closely together to ensure as well as sufficient homes we will have the right infrastructure in place, enough school places and health and leisure facilities.

We value the contribution the Army makes to our county and we know they will receive a warm welcome when they arrive and make their home here."

The houses are scheduled to be ready in 2020 and it's the job of Lovell Partnerships Ltd to make sure the homes are finished on time.

They will be located across three sites -

The Plumer Estate, Ludgershall - 242 homes
The Corunna Estate, Bulford - 225
The Alanbrooke Estate, Larkhill - 450

Delivery of the homes will be achieved through an accelerated construction programme, which will see up to 26 homes finished a week at peak.
