St Mary and St Melor Church is looking to remember an 89 year old local resident.

Joan McDonough passed away at Camelot Nursing Home in Amesbury, having lived there since 2014.

Before that, she lived in Salisbury for around 20 years.

One of her final wishes was to have a church funeral service, which is being arranged for her.

But Joan doesn't have any family, and only a few friends are likely to go along, so there's an appeal from the church for anyone who might be able to go along to pay their respects.

Assistant Curate at St Mary and St Melor in Amesbury, Heather Brearey, has put an appeal on Twitter:

Heather's told Spire FM that she expects a couple of neighbours from her time in Salisbury and some staff from Camelot in Amesbury to attend, but that's all.

She'd like to see more people at the service, to remember an 'ordinary person' whose life should be recognised.

The funeral will be held at St Mary and Melor on Thursday February 28th at 11.00am.
